Why Gulf Coast Pool Water Drifts So Fast
Balanced pool water is a moving target anywhere, and our climate makes it move faster. Direct summer sun destroys free chlorine in a matter of hours if the stabilizer level is not where it belongs. Afternoon thunderstorms dump rain into the pool and drag the pH and alkalinity down with it. A weekend with a full house of swimmers loads the water with sunscreen, sweat and organics that eat sanitizer faster than anything else on this list. None of that is visible until the water has already started to turn.
Chemistry is also what protects everything the pool is made of. pH that sits too low eats grout, etches plaster and corrodes heater components. Calcium hardness that runs too high leaves scale on tile and inside the equipment. Alkalinity that drifts out of range makes the pH swing wildly from week to week, so nothing you add ever seems to hold. We test at the pool with a proper kit, correct what is off before we leave, and track where each pool trends so we can get ahead of it rather than chase it.
