Inland heat, pine pollen and less salt — Crestview pools have their own set of problems.
Crestview sits far enough inland that the salt air stops being the story, and heat takes its place. Without the Gulf breeze moderating things, summer water temperatures here run noticeably warmer than they do down on the coast, and warm water is simply a better environment for algae. Chlorine also burns off faster in it. A Crestview pool in July can go from clear to hazy in a matter of days if the sanitizer and stabilizer are not both where they belong, which makes the weekly test the most valuable thing we do out here.
Pine is the other constant. The neighborhoods around Shoal River, out toward Antioch and through the subdivisions north of town are surrounded by pine, and pine pollen in spring will turn a pool surface yellow in a single afternoon. The needles are worse than the pollen in the long run, though, because they sink past the skimmer and settle on the floor. That means real vacuuming and more frequent filter cleaning, not just a pass with the net.
Crestview is the northern end of our service area and we run it on a set schedule rather than catch-as-catch-can, because a pool this far inland does not tolerate an irregular routine well in summer. Residential customers here are mostly year-round families using the pool hard from May through September, and the goal is straightforward: the pool is clean, the water is balanced, and nobody in the house has to think about it.

Water temperature. Without the Gulf breeze, inland pools run warmer through the summer, and warm water grows algae faster while burning through chlorine more quickly. Keeping stabilizer in range is especially important out here.
